DOC’S CORNER — Issue #11

Daniel Dubois drops DYNAMITE on Fabio Wardley’s chin.

Boxing Talk Family —

Did we just witness the greatest heavyweight match in British boxing history? I don’t know, but I DO KNOW that I was thoroughly entertained! This fight was everything it was cracked up to be and more.

Ohhh, and of course we predicted this one correctly, too!

Daniel Dubois was simply too good for Fabio Wardley, but (in true Fabio fashion) that didn’t stop Wardley from making it a fight that saw multiple momentum swings. Fabio dropped Dubois in the first and third rounds, which were the only rounds of the eleven that I scored for him, but Dubois sucked it up, bit down, and demonstrated his RESILIENCY that so many questioned, erroneously, may I add.

Dubois was stopped by Usyk (an ATG) and lost due to a broken orbital bone against Joe Joyce when he was just 22 years old. Whoopty do! Dubois beat:

An undefeated, PED popping, drug cheat in Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller (who just beat undefeated prospect Lenier Pero)

A likely HoFer, Olympic Gold medalist, former unified champion in Anthony Joshua

An undefeated championship contender Filip Hrgovic

Kevin Lerena

And now an undefeated, heavy hitting, WBO champion Fabio Wardley

…and he’s only 28 years of age!

Daniel Dubois is a beast and I’m telling you now…Moses Itauma will NOT fight him next despite being in the mandatory position for the WBO. He’s still in the B.P.P., the British Protection Program. They don’t want him to face a beast like Dubois yet, and I’m ok with that, but it’s contingent on two things:

1) If Itauma fights the likes of Guido Vianello, the winner of Richard Torrez Jr. and Frank Sanchez, Justis Huni, Efe Ajagba, or the underwhelming Bakhodir Jalolov

2) they need to stop acting like Dubois isn’t the real face of British Boxing!

Will Moses step up or will he continue on this Vergil Ortiz, Jai Opetaia arc where they call people out, but only fight guys that they think they can walk through? It’s still early for him, only time will tell.

Speaking of Vergil… Holy Bohachuk! That struggle victory, that saw Vergil get dropped twice, isn’t aging particularly well, is it? Shane Mosley Jr. didn’t just beat Serhii Bohachuk, he stopped him in six rounds after dropping him.

Is Bohachuk the earliest victim of the UFC style activity frequency of Zuffa? This is his second fight in three months.

Or did Shane show us that he’s a real contender?

Personally, I think it’s a bit of both. Either way, great victory for Young Shane, and respect to the always game Serhii Bohachuk.

Give one the opportunity that he deserves, and give the other some well deserved rest, respectively.

In other news, David Morrell gets STOPPED by Zak Chelli. Once again, Morrell was caught playing around, like he did with Imam Khataev, but this time he was STOPPED instead of DROPPED. I’m not going to pile on because David Morell was clearly up on the scorecards in BOTH fights, anything else being said is strictly hyperbole and exaggeration. Morrell is a good fighter that is juvenile with his antics, and it shows in the ring, I’ve said this about him before.
